About the Hotel

The Empress Hotel - Asbury Park’s LGBT Friendly Hotel

The Hotel opened as a luxury resort for vacationing families in the 1950s. By the summer of 1976, Asbury Park was in a state of decline, albeit the Empress Hotel remained a popular establishment for a decade.  Unfortunately, by 1988 the hotel was struggling for business, and closed shortly after.

In 1998, Shep Pettibone bought the abandoned building and opened the Paradise Nightclub. So after having been abandoned for many years, a derelict of a building, visionary Shep Pettibone came along and single-handedly restored this classic 50′s style building into a completely renovated hotel.  We are just steps from the famous Asbury Boardwalk and adjacent to Ocean Grove.  Whether you prefer to sunbathe, shop in our unique downtown shops, or dance the night away, the Empress is a perfect fit for all travelers.
